The Federal Reserve System (also called the Federal Reserve or “The Fed”) is the central banking system of the United States. The Federal Reserve is made up of a number of different entities, including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C., the Federal Open Market Committee, twelve regional Federal Reserve Banks located in major cities throughout the nation, a number of private U.S. “member banks”, and several advisory councils.
