Lifeline Account

in Glossary

Several States have laws which require some banks to offer “lifeline accounts” or “second chance” accounts to low-income customers.  The purpose is to make it easy for people with low incomes to have access to basic banking services.  These accounts are typically checking and savings products that have little or no monthly fees, require little if any minimum deposit and balance, and allow a set number of checks each month.
