Listen up! everybody who is trying to find a bank that does not use chexsystems. Right now for whatever reason Bank of America is opening all accounts that are opened online. It doesn't matter if you are in chexsystems, they are not turning down anyone. I'm in chexsystems and I owe several banks, however my cousin told me about BofA and she was right! I filled out an applicaiton online on a saturday and on that Monday they sent me my approval email. Wednesday they sent my banking package via mail. Maybe because of the economy, but whatever the reason go to BofA you won't be turned down. If they gave me an account they will give anybody one.

Credit Unions used to be the answer but they now use Chexsystems as well. They are becoming just like the big banks in courtesy overdrafts and processing checks from largest to least or which ever way they want to hit you with fees and report you to chexsystems. Some banks have Second Chance checking and so do some credit unions....in view of the financial crisis that the big banks caused and have paid very little for I would give my business to a local bank or credit union.

Hi Antwon -- unfortunately, there isn't a great list. Here are some recent tips we've received from readers: try going into your local BofA and opening an account. If they deny you, ask if the manager can explain in detail why you were denied (you should be able to find out what the blemish is on your chexsystems report that prevented you from opening the account). here's another reader tip: check out Woodforest Bank (they have a great second chance checking program). Another tip: check out all of your local credit unions (there's a great chance that you qualify to join one or two). And another tip: why not open a prepaid debit card account? Almost everyone that uses them agrees that they are often BETTER than a regular bank account (just make sure to shop around to find one that fits your situation).

Don't forget BofA also charges ANOTHER overdraft fees if you don't pay the amount owed within 5 days. Yup, you heard me right. So that accidently dollar overdraft is now ranking them in a good $500 bucks once they rearrange the fees to look how they want it to.
The person that wrote this article is sorely mistaken. There are other options that cost less than what stupid BofA charges. First you can go to the bank the check is drawn on and they will cash it for you. I pay a whole 5 dollars per month to get my check cashed at the bank is drawn off of and that's not because I don't have a bank account. It's because BofA would put a million day hold on my check and then charge me an overdraft if I tried to use any of it. Once I'm done with all the fees they charge me to hold and lend out my money I'm broke! Also, Wal-Mart and Western Union have great reloadable pre-paid cards. My father and I use this option because if there is no money on the card they do not let you use it unlike BofA. In fact, I just load the card at Von's grocery store whenever I need the funds. No need to wait for banking hours. As for $4 dollar money orders ...yeah try more like 80 cents at Western Union and even less at the post office ..which again is less than the cost of checks and fees the banks rack in. It's actually all very convenient too. I go to Vons reload my card, get an 80cent money order while I'm there and voila! And this is coming from someone that has TWO bank accounts.

Bank overdraft fees are becoming absolutely ridiculous. On my site, we get 4-5 people a day complaining about being unfairly charged. Bank of America has just agreed to now charges up to 10 overdraft fees per day at $39 a pop. Considering how they re-order transactions to optimize their fees, this is going to seriously hurt even more customers. Its time to stand up against these policies and demand change.
